The People BehinD The Results

Our team has led strategy inside FTSE-100 defence companies, commanded British forces in combat, shaped national security policy at the highest levels and have been the brains behind the development and facilitation of national defence initiatives. When you work with Strategical, you work with us directly. We're not career consultants. We're practitioners who spent decades inside the organisations our clients are trying to reach — and win business from.

Highly Experienced Practitioners with Unbeatable Track-Records

  • Shane Mason, founder of Strategical, dressed in a suit wearing glasses and smiling

    Shane Mason MBA MSt

Bio: Shane founded Strategical after a career spent winning major defence programmes from the inside.

As Head of Strategy at Babcock International, he led the campaign that launched the company into the space sector — securing a £400 million contract in a market they'd never previously operated in. Before that, at BAE Systems, he initiated the Type 45 replacement programme, cementing BAE's role in the UK Government's long-term plans for national air defence.

Shane's expertise lies in seeing what others miss: the strategic opportunity, the right positioning, the campaign that shifts a company from outsider to front-runner. He's done it repeatedly at the highest levels, and now he does it for Strategical's clients.

A Cambridge graduate with an MOD-sponsored MBA, Shane is also a sought-after media commentator on defence, geopolitics, and warfare.

At the strategic level, Jonathan served as Assistant Chief of Defence Staff for International Security Policy, where he became the first head of Defence Cyber Security, establishing national strategy in a domain that has since become central to UK security.
