certification

Independent certification of your organisation's business winning capability — assessed and awarded by Strategical against the UK Defence Market Readiness standard.

wHAT IT IS

The UK Defence Market Readiness Certification — DMRC - is an independent organisational certification awarded to companies that have demonstrated they are professionally equipped to operate in the UK defence market.

It is the only certification of its kind built specifically for UK defence. Where ISO 9001 signals that a firm is serious about quality management, DMRC signals that a firm is market ready — that its people, processes, and approach to business winning meet an independently assessed professional standard.

Certification is awarded following a structured audit conducted by a qualified Strategical Associate. It is not self-declared and it is not a membership badge. It is independently validated evidence that your organisation has the capability, structure, and processes in place to compete and win in the UK defence market — and that your potential customers, partners, and programme primes can rely on your organisation to bid, win, and deliver.

Why it matters

When a prime contractor, MOD commercial team, or potential teaming partner reviews your capability statement, they are assessing one question above all else — are you ready to do business in this market professionally?

DMRC answers that question with independent authority. Certified organisations can cite the mark in bid submissions, capability statements, teaming agreements, and marketing materials — providing external validation that their business winning function meets a defined professional standard.

For organisations entering the UK defence market for the first time, DMRC accelerates credibility with primes and procurement teams who have no prior experience of working with you. For established players, it differentiates from competitors who cannot demonstrate the same standard. For supply chain entrants seeking prime contractor partnerships, it removes one of the most common barriers to serious engagement.

The mark says: “we have been assessed. We are market ready.”

THE audit process

Stage 1 — Evidence Submission

The organisation provides documentation against each criterion across five domains. Evidence includes process documentation, tools in use, historic or current bid submissions, lessons learnt records and completed examples from live pursuits. Commercially sensitive material may be appropriately redacted provided it does not obscure the evidence required.

Stage 2 — Assessment Interview

A structured interview with business winning leadership and relevant function leads, conducted by the Strategical Associate. The interview explores the evidence submitted, tests understanding in practice, and identifies any gaps. Typically conducted over a single day — on-site or by video conference.

Stage 3 — Audit Report and Certification Decision

A formal written report setting out the assessment outcome for each criterion, the evidence reviewed, and — where applicable — conditions or recommendations. The certification decision is confirmed by Strategical following review of the report. Certified organisations receive the DMRC mark and are listed on the Strategical public register.
